Grappling

Grappling: The Most Complete and Effective Form of Fighting

In Grappling (also called submission grappling or submission fighting), all the techniques of combat sports are used: pins, joint locks, chokes, and painful pressure.

Grappling matches take place both standing and on the ground. Throwing techniques are used to knock the opponent down, and the fight continues on the ground until the finisher. The technique is delivered in a controlled manner to allow the opponents to surrender without injury or trauma. In addition to a submission, a fight can be won by scoring more technical points. These are achieved both in standing and ground fighting, by gaining a dominant position or by overturning the opponent.

Grappling is an important component of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), a combat sport in which both striking and grappling are permitted. The first MMA fighters gained international popularity in the 1990s thanks to their fighting skills. The first American UFC tournaments, featuring fighters of various styles, allowed spectators around the world to witness how experts in the disciplines that today constitute grappling easily prevailed over their opponents, not by striking them, but by taking them to the ground and forcing them to submit. This led to the development of this particular technique being studied by MMA fighters, significantly contributing to the spread of this fighting style worldwide. During grappling matches, athletes wear shorts and a tight-fitting shirt (rashguard). The duration of the match varies depending on the category and level, from 4 to 10 minutes.

Grappling classes, taught in our gym by qualified instructors, are an excellent physical training system. Staying fit while having fun is a very safe method and a practice also suitable for anyone seeking a “gentle” discipline.
