As a child, the mentoring, community and values martial arts provided Dr. (hc)Kapila Wijenayake, helped him through huge transitions as a young person including changing schools, adolescence and bullying. Starting from humble beginnings in a small village school in rural Somerset with the dream of making a global impact, The Seishin Mixed Martial Arts Club rapidly gained traction. Within 10 years, The Seishin Mixed Martial Arts Club was a global organization with clubs in Europe.

Wellness and weight loss with martial arts

Martial arts are often reduced to pure combat technique. This reductive thinking fails to capture the countless benefits these disciplines bring.

Psychological Factor:
Increasing self-confidence and self-efficacy, becoming aware of one’s potential, allows one to remain calm in stressful situations. The ultimate goal is complete control, eliminating stress and the worries that disturb us daily.

Physical Factor:
Wanting to lose weight doesn’t have to become an obsession, but it does require consistent training. Martial arts can help with this because they discipline the mind to cope with the fatigue experienced during the exercises related to the chosen martial art. All the sweat you lose will be proof that you’re working hard to lose weight, whether you like it or not. It’s now known that an hour of training allows you to burn between 600 and 1,200 calories, depending on the intensity of the class.
