Mixed Martial Art

What is MMA?

MMA (mixed martial art) is a discipline born from the need to compare different disciplines and bring tough and complete competition to international circuits. Its technical validity lies in harmonizing combat on three levels: strikes delivered with arms and legs , standing combat and ground combat .

The competition area is an octagon (in some tournaments the ring is used) where the athletes compete with the opportunity to use the containment net as a support and strategic tool. The duration of the matches varies according to the level of the competitors, from 4 minutes for a single round for “easy” matches to 5 minutes over three rounds for professionals.

In this very tough discipline we can divide the athletes into three specialty styles:

  • Striker : athlete predisposed to work at long distance with arms and legs, careful not to get thrown, looking for the knockout while standing.
  • Fighter : skilled in dodging and quick in closing the distance, his strong point is the projection which, often carried out with violence, stuns the opponent and allows him to finish with leverage techniques and strangulations.
  • Groundfighter : he tries to close the distance in every way possible thanks to his ability to take blows and his great strength which sets the fight on the ground based on the blows he violently delivers to the opponent.

Within this sporting circuit, the athletes of seishin budo perform well due to the natural predisposition of their style to competition on the three levels. In fact, for 30 years now, the seishin budo sporting discipline has competed with this competition formula where the athletes, in addition to the total combat test, use the weapons competition as a technical complement.

Being martial and sporty is the difficult task of the seishin budo practitioner constantly seeking technical perfection.
